chitty chitty bang bang

Today I am not witty. I am not fun. I have no cute stories to tell. I have no photos to share.
Today is ugly and raw and unpleasant. Today I will vent about how disgusting life can be. I can't sugar-coat what you are about to read, so I won't even try. And though I know there are some who might take a peek at this blog from time to time, who I'd rather not let in on this little nugget of info, but I'll share it here anyhow. This is, after all, my own blog. Right?

So let me just give the facts:

*My 25-year-old brother is in jail. Busted for DUI. Caught with marijuana and paraphernalia on his person. And he should be thanking his lucky stars he didn't get busted for all the other crap he's into. It's a miracle he was just arrested for DUI and not for killing someone in a drunk driving accident, or distributing narcotics, or theft, or any of his other shenanigans. Simply put he's a gigantically ungrateful, lying, mooching, stealing, drug using, non-working, jerky jerky jerkface. Yep. And we were raised in the same home, by the same parents, with the same morals and all the rest. WTH, you say? I know, right. I'm exasperated.

*My 18-year-old sister decided on Saturday that she would move in with her "real" mother, Helen. The same Helen who gave birth to Ragon 18 years ago but hasn't seen her more than, oh, maybe 20 times since she was 8 months old. Ragon was placed as a foster child with my family when she was found by social workers severely malnourished, underweight, underdeveloped, covered in filth in a highchair with a bottle of curdled formula in front of her. And thanks to this fantastic [insert sarcasm here] biological mother Ragon has severe learning, developmental, and/or social disabilities as a result of neglect and malnutrition. So yeah, Helen's a real freakin winner.

Actually Ragon's decision to move out didn't come as a total shock because Helen has been trying to weasel her way in since just before her 18th birthday last month. And in an act of total defiance, she came to my parents' home on Saturday and snatched Ragon while they were away for a few hours. Then, after a visit from a Sheriff and 2 city police officers, they came to the conclusion that since she's 18, this is nothing more than an adult person moving out.

Never mind the facts that: 1) she's totally incompetent, 2) she can't manage money, 3) doesn't have a job and can't get one, 4) can't drive, 5) is still a junior in high school (special-ed, mind you), 6) needs to be reminded to take a shower, brush her teeth, take her medicine, use deodorant, etc, 7) has no common sense/street-smarts, 8) can't tell time, 9) can't make change 10) can't do her own shopping, 11) can't use the oven or stove without supervision, 12) still watches "Mary Kate and Ashley" videos for fun, 13) still calls my parents "Mommy" and "Daddy"... yes, despite all that. Legally speaking, none of it matters. Somehow, this numskull Helen, with her promises of grandeur, lured her out of the safety of my parents' house and into the big bad world. What kind of parent could she be? Haven't the past 18 years served as enough proof that she's completely incapable? Does she have any idea how to care for Ragon? She's barely more than a child herself! Lord only knows what her motives might be.

If I were a betting woman, I would bet the motivation is money. She knows Ragon is worth some government assistance, and I think that's what it all comes down to.

But you wanna know the real kicker? Helen asked my dad today for Ragon's social security card, birth certificate, and Medicaid card so she can "job hunt". Bull hockey. When we know good and well that all she wants with that is to file for Ragon's Social Security benefits.

We suspect after a week or so of this dose of reality, Ragon will want to come back. But we're concerned that Helen's claws at that point will be dug in so firmly that she won't be able to escape.

Here's hoping my Dad's attorney can find some miraculous legal loop-hole to get her quickly declared as legally incompetent and apply for her adult guardianship (like they've been trying to do for MONTHS). I am not holding my breath.

Asside from all that, we're supposed to get 8 inches of snow tonight, which means more days with the hubs out of work.

So today is, in short, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

*[not that I'm complaining or anything.]

Thank you Sarah for being so transparent. Life is not always perfect and EVERYONE has skeletons in their closets. I hope and pray that your family is mended.

I am disappointed in myself that I can not remember your brother and sister!!! :(

I am sitting here and so unbelievably sad for you and your family, that I don't even know what else to say.

I will def. be praying for you, your fam, including Jacob and Ragon...praying that the Lord will intervene in both of these situations and bring some sort of peace and answers.

I'm so sorry...((hugs))
