Yes HE can.

One of the nice things about having your own blog is that you can say what's on your mind without being criticized by others who have views different from your own. Right?

Having said that, I want to vent my thoughts about the results from yesterday's election. (Warning: political opinions forthcoming)

I am disappointed. No, more accurately, I'm saddened. America, what is happening? No I am not - again I say NOT- against having a black president. No no. Actually I think it's wonderful that we're in a time when we not only say all races are equal, but show we believe it. I would repeat the sentiment if we had a woman, Asian, Latino, Native American, etc. in the Whitehouse. Honestly, I want to live in a nation with such equality. I believe God created all men and women equal in His sight. Civil Rights are fabulous.

Now... what about Human Rights?? As a Christian, I cannot be upset with those citizens of this land who do not follow Christ or know Him. What moral compass have they? No, what gives me pause are the dozens of Believers that I know who support Obama and find no moral or ethical dilemma in doing so. Can we not see the moral inconsistency in it?

In this case, the disappointment is compounded by the sense that the issues that did not allow us to support Mr. Obama are matters of life and death -- not just political issues of heated debate.

Quoting Dr. Al Mohler: "Yet, the issues and the politics remain. Given the scale of the Democratic victory, the political landscape will be completely reshaped. The fight for the dignity and sanctity of unborn human beings has been set back by a great loss, and by the election of a President who has announced his intention to sign the Freedom of Choice Act into law. The struggle to protect marriage against its destruction by redefinition is now complicated by the election of a President who has declared his aim to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. On issue after issue, we face a longer, harder, and more protracted struggle than ever before."

I understand that we lived in a fallen world filled with sinners (some forgiven by God's Grace, some not). What saddens me is that our own nation, Christian or not, values what we can get from our government (ie: lower taxes, refunds, credits, spreading the wealth, ending war) rather than placing higher value on Human Life. Do we as a nation truly condone the murder of our own babies?? I shake my head incredulously. It is so barbaric and heart wrenching. How could we, the most free, prosperous, blessed nation in the world commit such unfathomable injustice to our OWN children?!

There is only one remedy to this situation and it's God's hand of intervention. Christians are called to petition Him on behalf of those He has placed in authority. Since we know that men and women are incapable of any good thing; we cannot change our own hearts no matter how we try, we must call upon God to do just that.

1 Timothy 2 1-4: "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."

"We must pray that God would change President-Elect Obama's mind and heart on issues of our crucial concern. May God change his heart and open his eyes to see abortion as the murder of the innocent unborn, to see marriage as an institution to be defended, and to see a host of issues in a new light. We must pray this from this day until the day he leaves office. God is sovereign, after all... We may find ourselves to be defeated and discouraged. We must keep ever in mind that it is God who raises up nations and pulls them down, and who judges both nations and rulers. We must not act or think as unbelievers, or as those who do not trust God."

We are a people of unclean lips and unrepentant hearts. We are headed in a very dangerous direction. But His Word tells us... "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Oh yes HE can!
