rollie pollie

Well, yesterday was a big milestone for Elijah. He figured out how to roll over and over in one direction to get around the house. He only stops when he hits an obstacle like a wall or the couch. This new found freedom also lends itself to a host of new complications for Manny and me. For one thing, we can't take our eyes of him now. In a matter of seconds he can be into something dangerous or dirty. For another thing, I have to make sure he's not getting stuck in small places. Last night I left him on the floor in his room for 30 seconds while I put the laundry in the dryer. When I went back he had rolled himself under his crib and got stuck. It scared him, poor baby. He didn't know where he was or how to get out of there. I kind of laughed to myself though.

So now he enjoys being able to move himself around at will and I think he's warming up to the idea of tummy time. He actually can chose when he wants to be on his tummy, rather than being trapped there when I try to make him. Because of this, he's actually acting like he might want to learn to crawl. Especially on the kitchen floor. I think the linoleum kind of sticks to his knees and hands and helps him move forward. My goodness, it won't be long and we'll have a whole new world of worries. I can already see him itching to get moving. :) It's so cute.

And the crazy part is that it literally happened over night. Monday he just knew how to roll from his tummy to his back. Then yesterday it's like the light bulb went off and he realized he can go both ways and get someplace. Oh boy!!
