The beginning of the story

In October 2006 Manny and I decided it was time for us to start trying to have a baby. After all, we had been married over 7 years at that time and had plenty of time together as a couple. It felt like we were ready to start a family and move on to the next chapter in our lives. At that time we had no idea if we'd be able to conceive right away but we left it in God's hands and knew that at the right time He would bring a baby if He wanted to. That first month went by and no baby. I must admit I was a little disappointed, but not devastated. We just kept trying and didn't know it was working until...

My family (mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, and brother) came up to Indy to visit us for Thanksgiving weekend. Honestly I didn't know what to expect. But we decided just for fun, to take the pregnancy test on Thanksgiving morning. First thing that morning Manny and I waited the longest 3 minutes of our lives in the bathroom, watching for that little stick to have 2 pink lines. When it was time to look at it, I was almost too nervous! We counted to 3 and looked together to find ...I couldn't believe my eyes!! We both had to do a double-take to make sure it was real. We hugged and cried and giggled there in the bathroom until I could muster up the ability to walk out into the kitchen and show my mom and grandma, who were already hard at work making Thanksgiving pies. At first my mom looked at me blankly, I'm sure wondering what could be wrong with me so early in the morning. Then she noticed the test in my hand and started screaming "is that a baby?" and jumping up and down and hugging me. Then my grandma caught on and did the same. My mom ran through the house laughing and screaming and jumping around and finally went to wake my dad (who I'm sure could already hear all the commotion). I wish I had my video camera with me for that because it was one of the funniest most memorable moments yet! Soon the rest of the household was awake and excitedly hugging and patting Manny on the back for a job well done. Manny did have a bit of a twinkle in his eye that day. I think he was pretty proud of himself. :)

Later that day we called Manny's family out in CA and our friend Libby to share the news. We decided to keep it to ourselves besides that just in case something bad would happen.
What a Thanksgiving! I'll never forget it. We had so much to be thankful for that day!! (as always)
